I recently
attended a conference. At the beginning
of this conference I decided that I wouldn’t let anyone or anything influence
my experience. I showed up for me. On the first night of this conference the
woman at the front of the room asked some questions and made some statements
that hit me like a ton of bricks.
-You are the
author of your story.
As she continued
to explain, she pointed out that we were all in charge of our lives. She gave us permission to take responsibility
for our stories and to create a new path
for our lives. Next she said
-If you are
the author of your story, you have the ability to change it.
As I sat
there and listened to her continue I knew that she was right. Only I have the ability to decide where I go
from here. Of course I have a husband and
a family that impact my decisions, but they are not THE deciding factor. Last she gave us
homework. She said
-I want you
to go back to your homes or hotel rooms and rewrite your story.
I felt in control.
Able to breathe. Alive with the idea
that what I wanted to write was completely up to me. In that moment I was given the ability to
choose. And so I did. That night I sat in my hotel room and wrote
the following:
“Today I
begin a new story. One where I have a
voice. Where I learn that I have value
just because I am CREATED in His image.
What I want matters. Who I am
matters. He has created me with DIVINE
PURPOSE. It is now ok to want what I want. I give myself permission to go for it. I will
decide that I am worth it because He is in me.”
As I type
these words I am energized by their magnitude. I am excited for my future because
I have blank pages left to write.
You too are the
author of your life. You can rewrite
your story and choose what you want it to say.
Some of your stories will start with
I am enough…
I am smart…
I am proud of myself…
I can dream…
No matter what happened in the past,
I am responsible for my future…
You have the
power to create great things. Things
that only you were put here to do. What
does your story say now? What do you want it to say? Start writing!!
“Be
yourself. Everyone else is already
taken.” Oscar Wilde
